Why pair them
Your scalp and your face share a border
The scalp is skin. Same organ, same oil glands, same habit of holding onto product and stress — it just happens to grow hair. Treating the face while ignoring the inch above the hairline is a strange convention the beauty industry taught everyone, and the head-spa-plus-facial combo is the correction: one appointment that works both sides of the border.
At our Kirkland studio, 816 6th St S, Combo 4 does it in 90 minutes: the 60-minute Signature Head Spa followed by a 30-minute facial, $138 cash or $148 card. Combo 6 is the longer cut — the same head spa hour plus a full 60-minute Moisturizing Facial — 120 minutes, $188 cash.
Two professional lines split the work. Milbon handles the scalp: purifying shampoo, detoxifying exfoliant, conditioning treatment. Comfort Zone handles the face. And both halves end properly — the head spa with a Dyson blow-dry and Moroccan hair oil, the facial with a treatment mask — so nothing about the visit needs fixing in the parking lot.
The order matters more than it looks, too. Scalp first means the rinse water, the steam, and the blow-dry all happen before your face gets its turn — the mask goes on last and stays undisturbed, and nobody is working a shower arch anywhere near a fresh facial. Small piece of choreography; the whole combo is built around it.
Two ways in
Combo 4 or Combo 6
The choice between them is really a choice about time and skin goals. Combo 4's half-hour facial is the classic: cleanse, refresh, done. Combo 6 swaps in the full 60-minute Moisturizing Facial — cleansing, exfoliation, and a treatment mask with room to breathe — for $50 more and 30 minutes longer.
| Package | Time | Cash / Card | The facial half |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combo 4 | 90 min | $138 / $148 | 30-minute classic facial — cleanse and refresh |
| Combo 6 | 120 min | $188 / $208 | 60-minute Moisturizing Facial — cleanse, exfoliation, treatment mask |
The honest math
Since we publish the numbers anyway: Combo 6's $188 cash is exactly the Signature Head Spa ($78) plus the standalone Moisturizing Facial ($110). No markup, no invented discount — the combo's value is one reservation instead of two. Combo 4 prices its 30-minute facial at an effective $60 over the head spa. Standalone options, including the 90-minute Signature Facial at $160 cash and the Gentleman's Facial at $110, live on the facial menu.
Card prices track the same structure — Combo 4 at $148, Combo 6 at $208 — because the studio-wide rule is simple: pay cash, pay less. It isn't a promotion with an expiry date. It's the standing architecture, printed on the menu, and it applies to standalone services exactly as it applies to combos.
The visit
How the double session flows
Ninety minutes, two stations, and zero decisions required of you after check-in. That first conversation covers the whole visit at once — water temperature, massage pressure, skin sensitivities, anywhere to skip — and then the session belongs to the therapists. Your only remaining job is deciding whether to fall asleep during the scalp massage or hold out for the mask.
The head spa hour
You start face-up at the hydrotherapy basin, in a private room rather than an open floor. Your therapist checks two dials before anything begins — massage pressure and water temperature — and both stay yours to adjust the whole hour. Then the Signature sequence: Milbon purifying cleanse, detoxifying scalp exfoliation, the head-neck-shoulder massage, conditioning treatment, warm rinse. Guests describe the basin hour as the fastest sixty minutes of their week. It closes at the styling chair: Dyson blow-dry, Moroccan hair oil, done.
The facial finish
Hair already dry and oiled, you move to the facial bed. Combo 4's half hour is a Comfort Zone cleanse and refresh; Combo 6's full hour adds exfoliation and a treatment mask. This back half is stiller than the first — less hands-in-hair, more warmth and product doing quiet work. NCCIH's overview of mind-and-body practices groups guided, hands-on relaxation approaches together for a reason, and Mayo Clinic's relaxation-techniques primer describes the slowed-breathing, loosened-shoulders state most guests report by the mask stage.
Fit check
Who the pairing suits
Not everyone needs both halves. These are the situations where the combo earns its booking over a single service:
- Skin and scalp both feel congested — product buildup above the hairline, clogged pores below it. One 90-minute visit resets both.
- You're prepping for photos or an event and want finished hair and calm skin from a single appointment, not two errands.
- You keep a monthly facial habit already; folding the scalp in costs 60 more minutes, not another trip across town.
- You're giving it away — Square gift certificates arrive by email and a $138 combo makes a complete gift, no sizing required.
- Men curious about either service: both halves run identically for everyone, and the standalone menu adds a Gentleman's Facial at $110 if that's the better fit.
And if none of those fit
Book the halves separately and nothing is lost — remember, the combo carries no discount to forfeit. It exists for the days both sides of the border need the same appointment, and $138 is simply the two services standing next to each other on one receipt. The annual math is easy too: a monthly Combo 4 runs $138 cash twelve times a year, $1,656 total, covering a facial habit and a scalp habit in one line item. Most guests won't run it that tightly. Nothing requires you to; the point is the double session prices like maintenance, not like a splurge.
Getting here
The Eastside address
Kirkland is Soul's only studio east of Lake Washington, which quietly makes it the combo stop for the whole Eastside: Bellevue, Redmond, and Woodinville each sit about 15 minutes out, Juanita about 5. Hours run 10 AM to 9:30 PM daily — late enough that a post-work Combo 4 starting at 7:30 PM still wraps by 9. The wider Eastside overview maps the drive times; photos, directions, and studio details are on the Kirkland studio page.
Book it
Booking scalp and skin in one go
Reserve through Setmore online, or call or text (425) 345-3139 — texting works well: send the combo number, party size, and a preferred time and the desk takes it from there. Walk-ins are welcome when stations are open, though a two-room booking is worth locking in ahead. Arrive 10 minutes early; the session clock doesn't stretch for late starts.
Two more numbers: cancellations want 24 hours' notice (50% fee inside 24 hours, 100% for a no-show), and our head spa guidance is a session every 3 to 4 weeks — putting the facial on the same rhythm keeps skin and scalp on one calendar and you in one car. Curious how the scalp half connects to its Japanese salon roots? The Japanese head spa in Kirkland page traces the lineage.
Small logistics, learned from repetition: jewelry comes off for both halves, so simplest is leaving it home, and phones stay silent — the studio runs quiet on purpose. One thing the combo can't do: its facial half is the classic or the Moisturizing only. If your skin wants the full 90-minute Signature Facial — steam, deep-pore cleansing, customized mask, $160 cash — book that standalone and give the head spa its own visit another week.
The scalp is skin. Treating one side of the hairline and ignoring the other never made much sense.
