What cupping is and what the research says
Cupping is old, popular, and routinely oversold — so let's do this properly. The practice places suction cups on the skin, most often across the back and shoulders, drawing the tissue upward into the cup and pulling blood flow toward the surface. It comes out of traditional Chinese medicine, it leaves distinctive circular marks, and at Soul Massage's Everett studio it's offered as a $30 addition worked into a full massage session rather than a standalone treatment.
Now the part most spa pages skip. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health maintains the U.S. government's plain-language review of what cupping research actually shows, and its position is direct: there isn't enough high-quality evidence to draw firm conclusions about whether cupping helps any condition, and the marks it leaves — essentially bruising from suction — are a common, expected, and temporary side effect. We're comfortable putting that on the page because we aren't selling cupping as medicine. We offer it as a physical experience guests keep asking for, framed honestly.
What guests describe afterward: warmth across the cupped area, a pulling sensation that reads as strange for the first minute and settles quickly, and shoulders that feel looser once the cups come off. Traditional practice associates cupping with circulation and the release of long-held tension. We'll leave the tradition its language, the research its caution, and the decision to you.
The session
How cupping runs at Soul
Cupping here is an add-on, not a separate appointment. You book any massage — 60, 90, or 120 minutes — and the cupping is folded into that session for $30 more. The massage does its usual full-body work; the cups concentrate on the areas you and your therapist pick at the consult, almost always the back and shoulder region where tension pools. There's a quiet logic to bundling them: NCCIH's separate review of massage therapy gives hands-on work a firmer evidence base than the cups riding on top of it, so the hour's substance stays where the research is strongest.
Suction is adjustable — always
Suction, like everything else on a Soul table, is adjustable. Tell your therapist if the pull feels like too much and it eases immediately. The studio's standing policy applies here with no asterisks: if a session is genuinely uncomfortable and can't be adjusted into working, we stop, and you don't pay for it.
Which massage style goes underneath
First-timers sometimes ask which massage style pairs best underneath. There's no wrong answer — cupping rides on Swedish as easily as on firmer work. If you already know you want serious pressure, the deep tissue page covers what that style involves; the $30 cupping price is identical on top of either.
Know before you go
About the marks
The circles are not damage and not a sign something went wrong — they're the practice's signature, produced by suction drawing blood toward the skin's surface. NCCIH classes them with bruising: normal, expected, temporary. They fade on their own over the following days, and every body runs its own schedule.
Practical planning beats surprise. If a backless dress, a beach weekend, or wedding photos sit on your calendar, count backward and book your cupping session with room to spare — or book the massage without the cups and add cupping next visit. The $30 add-on will still be there. For a deeper walk through the practice's history and what a first session feels like, our cupping therapy guide goes further than this page has room to.
The studio
The Everett studio in Silver Lake
Soul's Everett location sits at 10315 19th Ave SE, Suite 108 — the Silver Lake corridor just off I-5, roughly 15 minutes from Marysville, Mukilteo, Snohomish, or Mill Creek and about 20 from Lake Stevens. Parking is at the suite. This is also the flagship of the four Soul studios, carrying a 4.8-star Google rating.
Hours run 10 AM to 10 PM daily, the latest close of the four Soul studios, which suits cupping's typical booking pattern: after work, after the gym, after the week. A 120-minute massage-plus-cupping session starting at 7:30 PM still ends with half an hour of buffer before the doors close.
Pricing
The $30 rule
One number to remember: cupping adds $30 to whatever massage you book, cash pricing. So the $75 hour becomes $105. The $105 ninety-minute becomes $135. The $145 two-hour becomes $175. Cards run $10 more at each tier — the cash discount is studio policy across the entire massage menu, not a promotion.
If you want two enhancements in one session, CBD cream stacks with cupping at $160 cash for 90 minutes and $200 for 120 — that's the 250 mg THC-free CBD application on your focus areas plus cup work on the back. The full enhanced table is below.

Booking cupping in Everett
Book through Setmore, or call or text (425) 948-5868 — if we miss the call, a text naming the service, your party size, and a rough time frame gets the fastest confirmation. Mention cupping when you book so the room is set before you arrive.
Come about 10 minutes early for the consult, especially on a first visit — placement and suction preferences are worth two unhurried minutes. The cancellation policy is 24 hours' notice; under that, a 50% fee applies, and no-shows bill in full. Tips are customary and not included in listed prices.
