The idea
Buy the hour, not the appointment she never asked you to pick
Book someone a head spa for 2 PM on a Saturday and you have made a decision on their behalf about a day you do not control. Buy a $78 gift certificate instead and they choose the studio, the hour, and whether to take the 60-minute Signature or put the amount toward one of the 90-minute rituals. Soul's certificates run through Square and work at all four Washington studios, so "which one is closest to you" becomes their problem, pleasantly. This is the single most useful thing on this page and it costs less than most birthday dinners for two.
If you are hosting rather than gifting, the numbers are just as simple. Head spa is priced per person — $78 cash for the 60-minute Signature — and a group of 5 to 10 guests can be hosted at the same time. Four friends is $312 cash. Six is $468. A full party of ten is $780. Nothing is added for the group and nothing is discounted for it either, which at least makes the budget conversation short. Soul has been women-owned since the first studio opened in Mill Creek in 2021, and more than 15,000 guests have come through the four locations since.
Why scalp care makes a decent birthday, in the only terms we are willing to use: it is an hour with no decisions in it. NCCIH keeps a plain-language file on sleep and complementary health approaches, and Mayo Clinic Press has written about the role massage therapy plays in mental well-being. We make no claims beyond that. The birthday version of the argument is that most people over thirty have stopped wanting objects and started wanting an afternoon.
The numbers
What each amount actually buys
Gift certificates can be any amount, but a few numbers map cleanly onto real services, which makes the gift feel deliberate rather than approximate. Everything below is cash pricing; card prices run $10 higher per service, except on the combo packages, where the gap runs anywhere from $10 to $30.
| Amount | What it covers |
|---|---|
| $78 | One 60-minute Signature Head Spa: cleanse, exfoliation, head-neck-shoulder massage, hydrotherapy, blow-dry |
| $135 | One 90-minute ritual — Luxury, Chinese Herb, or Deep Clean Scalp |
| $138 | Combo 4: the 60-minute Signature Head Spa plus a 30-minute facial, 90 minutes in one visit |
| $150 | A 60-minute couples massage for two, in the private room with two therapists |
| $153 | Combo 5: a 60-minute full-body massage plus the 60-minute Signature Head Spa, 120 minutes, one person |
| $156 | Two Signature Head Spas. Not a package — simply $78, twice |
| $390 | Five Signature Head Spas: the smallest headcount that books as a group |
| $468 | Six Signature Head Spas, at $78 apiece |
| $624 | Eight Signature Head Spas |
| $780 | Ten Signature Head Spas: the largest group a studio can host at one time |
The one line people misread
$156 is two head spas, not a couples head spa. Soul has genuine two-person pricing on massage, because that service uses one room and two therapists at once. Scalp care does not work that way — each guest is a separate booking at a separate $78, even when the two of you take a room together. Nobody at the desk will quote you a duo rate, because there is not one. The full menu with every price sits on the services page.
The party
Ten chairs is the ceiling, and afternoons fill first
A birthday group runs like this. You call with a headcount and a target time, the desk blocks that many rooms and therapists into one window, and the party arrives together about ten minutes early. Everyone reclines at a basin, in private rooms the group is not sharing with anyone else in the building. The hour moves through a Milbon purifying cleanse, a detoxifying scalp exfoliation, the head-neck-shoulder massage that is the reason most people rebook, a conditioning treatment, the warm hydrotherapy rinse, and a blow-dry. Guests come out dry, soft-haired, and noticeably quieter than they went in.
Any of the four studios takes groups, so pick by the clock. Mill Creek opens at 9:30 AM — the earliest door in the family — which makes a morning party followed by lunch genuinely workable. Everett stays open until 10 PM for the crowd whose birthdays start after dinner. Kirkland covers the Eastside. Lynnwood puts the party on the Alderwood strip. All four run the same menu at the same prices, and the whole roster with addresses and hours is on the locations page.
Birthdays with a kid in them
Minors are welcome at Soul as long as a parent or guardian is present, which makes a thirteenth or sixteenth birthday head spa a normal booking rather than a special request. Mention her age when you call so the therapist plans the hour appropriately. Practically speaking, teenagers tend to love the rinse and the blow-dry more than adults do, and shorter hair simply means more of the hour goes to the massage. Same $78 cash, no youth rate.
When the group is bigger than ten
Eleven or more does not fit into one wave, and no amount of enthusiasm at the front desk changes the number of rooms. Two options work: split into two waves an hour apart, or send two of the party into the couples massage room while the other eight take head spa rooms. Both need a phone call rather than an online booking. The group bookings page walks through how those blocks get built and how much lead time each shape needs.
Who it lands for
The relative who says please don't get me anything
That person is the entire market for this. So is the friend with a new baby who has not sat still since spring, and the dad who has never once bought himself a spa service and will happily accept one that has already been paid for. Men book head spas constantly here; the ritual is identical, and shorter hair just shifts more of the hour into the massage. Grandparents are a steady booking too, usually from adult kids who ran out of ideas around year fifteen.
A quieter case: the birthday that lands badly. Some years the day is not much fun, and a certificate that can be used in three weeks rather than on the date itself is a kindness disguised as a gift. That flexibility is the real argument for buying the amount rather than the appointment — the recipient books when the week actually has room in it, at whichever of the four studios is closest. If you want to see what other people conclude about the value before you spend, the guide on whether a head spa is worth it does the arithmetic honestly.
Book it
How to set it up without ruining the surprise
For a gift: buy a Square certificate through the gift certificates page or at any front desk, hand it over, and let the recipient call the studio of their choice. For a party: call or text (425) 608-9019 at Mill Creek, or the number for whichever studio you want, with the headcount, the service, and a target start time. Two guests can usually book online. Three or more should not try, because the calendar cannot reserve rooms as a block.
The rules that matter once money has changed hands. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice; inside that window it is a 50% fee, and a no-call no-show is charged in full. On a party of ten that is a real number, so confirm your group before you confirm the booking. Arrive about ten minutes early, since a late start shortens the session rather than pushing the next guest's. Cash saves at least $10 on every service. And refunds come back as service credit rather than cash, which is one more argument for the certificate route — it never expires into a wasted appointment slot. Pairs who want to be side by side can read the two-person version on the couples page.
Four studios
Same menu, four sets of doors
Mill Creek sits at 16300 Mill Creek Blvd Ste 118 and runs 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM, the longest day in the family, with free parking at the suite door and Bothell about twelve minutes south. Everett, at 10315 19th Ave SE Suite 108, is the flagship and holds a 4.8-star Google rating; it stays open until 10 PM, which is the latest close of the four. Kirkland at 816 6th St S is the only studio east of Lake Washington, five minutes from Juanita. Lynnwood at 3105 Alderwood Mall Blvd #112 is the newest and closes at 9 PM.
Whichever one you choose, the head spa menu is the same and so are the prices — four rituals, one 60-minute and three 90-minute, described in full on the head spa hub. That uniformity is what makes gift certificates work as a birthday present: you are not committing anyone to a location, only to an hour they get to spend where it suits them.
Most people over thirty have stopped wanting objects and started wanting an afternoon.
