The experience

Two therapists, one session what four hands means

Your brain is better at tracking touch than you think. With one therapist, some part of your attention quietly follows the work — shoulder now, forearm next, back up to the neck. A four hands massage breaks that habit by force. Two therapists work the same session in mirrored sync, left and right sides moving together, and the mind simply cannot follow both streams at once. So it stops trying. Guests describe the moment it happens as a kind of drop: the internal narrator gives up, and the session gets very quiet inside.

That's the entire idea, and it's why the format keeps a devoted following far out of proportion to how rarely spas around Kirkland staff it. It isn't a stronger massage or a doubled deep-tissue session. It's a different mental experience built on the same table.

The ground covered is familiar — back, shoulders, neck, arms, legs — and the techniques come from the same toolkit as our standard sessions: Swedish flow, deeper targeted work, or a blend your therapists agree on with you at the consult. The difference is never the menu of strokes. It's the impossibility of narrating them.

The research angle

What we can honestly say about the effect

We won't dress this up in clinical language it hasn't earned. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health's plain-English review of massage therapy research finds the most consistent evidence around relaxation and short-term relief of muscle tension — and this format is, at its core, a massage engineered to maximize exactly that relaxation response. The American Massage Therapy Association's position holds that massage can contribute to health and wellness as part of routine self-care, which matches what our regulars actually do with it: book the two-therapist session when the ordinary hour has stopped feeling like enough of a reset.

One instruction, two sets of hands

Pressure works the way it always does here. Two therapists sync their depth to a single instruction from you — say lighter or firmer once and both adjust together. If anything is uncomfortable and can't be fixed, the session stops and you don't pay. Deep pressure carries the usual honest warning: next-day soreness is normal.

Who books this

People in caretaking-heavy seasons — new parents, nurses coming off a stretch of shifts. Guests marking something: a birthday with a zero in it, the end of a brutal quarter. And a small loyal group who tried it once, felt the drop, and won't go back to two hands for their monthly hour.

Common mix-up

Four hands is not a couples massage

The two get confused constantly, so here's the sorting. A couples massage is two guests and two therapists on two tables in one room — you bring a person. Four hands is one guest and two therapists — you bring nobody and receive double the staffing. Couples pricing is printed on the menu, $150 cash for 60 minutes up to $290 for 120. The two-therapist session isn't printed, because putting two therapists on one booking depends on that day's schedule.

Choosing between them comes down to what the hour is for. Shared time: couples. Complete mental shutdown for one person: four hands. And if what you really want is strong solo work at a listed price, the standard Kirkland lineup runs $75 to $145 cash by duration and books online in about a minute.

It also gifts unusually well, precisely because the recipient can't look up the price. A Soul gift card covers whatever the quoted session comes to, and the recipient schedules by phone like anyone else.

The studio

The Eastside room on 6th St S

Soul's Kirkland studio sits at 816 6th St S — about 5 minutes from Juanita, 8 from Totem Lake, and roughly 15 from Bellevue, Redmond, Bothell, or Woodinville. For Eastside guests it's the one Soul location that doesn't involve driving north into Snohomish County; the other three studios cluster around Mill Creek, Everett, and Lynnwood.

Hours run 10 AM to 9:30 PM, seven days, which leaves genuine room for after-work bookings — a 7:30 PM start still fits a full 90-minute session. The menu and the cash rule match the rest of the massage lineup: every listed massage is $10 less when paid in cash. If you're coming from Bellevue or Redmond, the calculus is simple — 15 minutes of driving buys a service very few Eastside studios staff at all.

Book it

Why four hands books by phone and how to do it

Online booking works fine when a session needs one therapist. This format needs two, in the same room, at the same moment — a scheduling problem software handles badly and a human handles in one call. So this service has no online slot and no printed price. Call or text (425) 345-3139, say four hands, and offer a day or two that work; the front desk pairs the therapists and quotes your session while you're on the line.

Walk-ins rarely succeed here — two simultaneously free therapists is luck, not planning — so call ahead even for same-day hopes; earlier hours are the easiest to staff. Arrive about 10 minutes before your slot: the consult covers pressure, focus areas, and anything to skip, and with two sets of hands the alignment matters twice as much.

Standard policies apply. Cancellation needs 24 hours' notice, a late cancel carries a 50% fee, and a no-show bills in full — steeper in effect than usual, because two therapists held the time. The rest of the visit logistics live on the FAQ page and read in about two minutes.

Kirkland FAQ

Good questions, straight answers

What exactly is a four hands massage?
One session, one guest, two therapists working in synchronized rhythm — typically mirroring each other on the left and right sides of the body. The sensory effect is the point: with two movement streams at once, the mind can't monitor the work, so it releases in a way single-therapist sessions rarely reach. Sessions cover the same full-body ground as our standard massages.
How much does a four hands massage cost in Kirkland?
It's quoted by phone rather than printed, because staffing two therapists on one booking depends on the day's schedule. Call or text (425) 345-3139 and the desk quotes your session while scheduling it. For reference, standard single-therapist massages at Soul run $75 to $145 cash depending on duration.
Why can't I book four hands online?
Online booking reserves one therapist per slot; this session needs two therapists free at the same moment, in the same room. A human coordinator solves that in one call — software doesn't. Phone or text (425) 345-3139 with a couple of possible days and the front desk handles the pairing.
How is this different from a couples massage?
A couples massage is two guests, each with their own therapist — $150 cash for 60 minutes, up to $290 for 120. Four hands flips the ratio: both therapists work on one guest. Book couples when the point is shared time; book the two-therapist format when the point is switching one mind completely off.
Is four hands twice as intense as a normal massage?
Not unless you want it to be. Depth is set by your instruction at the consult and adjusted anytime — say firmer or lighter once and both therapists shift together. Many guests actually book it on the gentler side, since the immersion, not the pressure, is what they came for. Deep work still carries the normal next-day soreness caveat.
How far is the studio from Bellevue or Redmond?
About 15 minutes from either, at 816 6th St S in Kirkland — with Juanita just 5 minutes out and Totem Lake about 8. Bothell and Woodinville also land near the 15-minute mark, making this the Soul studio for the whole Eastside.
What hours can I schedule four hands?
The Kirkland studio runs 10 AM to 9:30 PM daily, and sessions can land anywhere in that window that two therapists align — mornings are usually easiest to staff. Give the desk two or three candidate times when you call (425) 345-3139 and you'll almost always get one of them.
